this must have been my longest break from blogging. between june 23 and now, i have ...
1) completed an awesome internship in singapore (that is surprisingly, possible!)
2) returned to the states to begin year 4 of grad school
3) started a 10-month long internship providing therapy/counseling for children (hopefully not doing too much harm along the way)
4) made some progress towards graduation, which i hope will take place some time before i turn 30.

in between all these mundane markers that read like a laundry list, i attended 2 very beautiful weddings, 2 of my friends gave birth, and one of my ex-students passed away. my emotions were definitely intense during those moments but they have since been diluted by the passing of time. i wish that i had been more diligent in taking down my thoughts/reflections during each of those moments, to capture the essence and richness of living, but my memories are as spotty and empty as this blog.

when i first started writing, i meant for this blog to be a platform for me to connect with my friends and family from all over. but now with everyone on facebook (including my parents!) and twitter (which i have resisted joining), connecting with each other has been reduced to as many characters as a status update will allow. who has the time and energy to indulge into essays of my "deep" thoughts?

also, perhaps with age, i have become a lot more private. i used to think that this is my blog so i can write whatever i please (of course, doing so responsibly). now the thought being so open and baring my soul to some friends and some strangers frighten me. from the get-go, i wanted to write honestly and openly, but as i assume a growing number of roles (e.g., friend, daughter, sister, teacher, therapist, employee at ..., student at ...), i am also finding it increasingly difficult to write in a manner befitting all my roles. i do not regret any of the things i had written but i also no longer enjoy being this public. i find it a lot more comforting now to keep my thoughts private on pen and paper, and sometimes amongst a few close friends.

so i suppose this entry, my 404th, will be my last on this blog. 6 years 10 months, it's a pretty long time to keep something going, and now a good time to move on too. maybe someday i will write again, but i shall spare everyone from my mindless musings. if you want to catch up, i can still be reached at charnessia@hotmail.com. for now, take care and be well. God bless.
